Safety tips on the use of LPG cylinders
- Always position the cylinder in an upright vertical position to avoid rolling.
- Keep cylinders in a well-ventilated area away from possible heat, direct sunlight and electrical sources.
- When transporting, the cylinder should be held by the shroud and should neither be rolled or held by the regulator.
- Cylinders need to be kept away from the reach of children.
- If you suspect any leaks, prepare a soapy solution and run it over the cylinder, never use a flame to detect it. Turn off the cylinder immediately and seek professional assistance.
- Always turn off the regulators when the cylinder is not in use.
- Valve protection caps should remain in place until ready to withdraw gas.
- Do not strike cylinders against each other as agitation and mishandling can cause explosion and further damage if gas escapes.
- Always purchase LPG cylinders and its accessories from authorized and licensed dealers who follow the appropriate standards and be sure to follow their user operating instructions always.
- When connecting or disconnecting a regulator, ensure that the valve is closed and the pressure released.
- Ensure all cylinders are properly labelled and have clear markings indicating the type of gas they contain.
- Avoid storing LPG cylinders near flammable materials like gasoline or any form of smoke as well as confined spaces or basements.
- Never use LPG cylinders beyond their recommended life span. Always present them for refurbishment when the time is due.
- Check the hose regularly for any signs of wear or tear and never temper with it or any other accessory in attempt to fix it.
- Do not have curtains or windows installed near gas stoves.
- Never use grease or oil to lubricate Regulators or Cylinders as they can cause explosions.
